The Codex Rodriguez-Mondragón, a series of maps, botanical drawings, and other related works by Los Angeles-based artist, Sandy Rodriguez, performs Reconquista, reclaiming the land taken from our indigenous ancestors by Europeans over 500 years ago.
In the series of images and the related sculptures that comprise this installation, and the intensive research and creative processes that sustain them, Rodriguez recovers and revitalizes traditional Indigenous knowledge, histories, and artistic practices.
In the process, she decolonizes our past, offering hope for our present and a more just future for the Americas.
